French Abstract: Au XIXe et au XXe siècles, l’économie politique regroupe plusieurs domaines distincts. A côté des connaissances offertes par la théorie, on peut identifier un autre domaine généralement appelé économie appliquée. Léon Walras distingue très explicitement l’économie pure de l’économie appliquée ; au même moment, John Neville Keynes distingue économie positive, économie normative et économie appliquée. La position de Wassily Leontief, lorsqu’il élabore l’analyse input-output, dans les années 1930-1940, paraît assez conforme à ce cadre général. En 1949, dans l’American Economic Review, il présente l’analyse input-output comme « une tentative d’application de la théorie économique de l’équilibre général à l’analyse empirique quantifiée d’une économie nationale réelle. » (Leontief, 1949a, p. 211)
