Ra Mason

Biblio: Ra Mason is a long-time specialist of Japanese Studies and International Relations, and a White Rose East Asia Centre Fellow. He completed his First Class BA (Hons) in Japanese Studies at the University of Stirling, 2002, and won the illustrious Sir Peter Parker Award for Spoken Business Japanese the same year. After a successful sojourn to Okinawa for three years as Coordinator for International Relations, Ra graduated with an MA in Global Studies from Sophia University in 2009. A Double-Degree PhD in Law/East Asian Studies, Tohoku University/University of Sheffield, followed in 2012. His research focuses on the identification, mediation and recalibration of risk in international relations - specifically how risk is manifest in discourse that intersects the state, market and soicety, and therefore shapes policy profoundly. Ra has been employed both remuneratively and as a volunteer by numerous companies and organizations in order to facilitate cross-national business and exchange activities. In recognition of his achievements in one such capacity, he was elected to Sendai C.C.’s hall of fame in 2011. He is currently serving time as Senior Lecture in Asia Pacific Studies at SoLLIS.
