Semple war 1904 Gründungsmitglied der Association of American Geographers (AAG) und wurde 1921 als erste Frau zur Präsidentin der Organisation gewählt, damit ist sie eine von nur sechs Frauen, die dieses Amt in der Geschichte der AAG innehatten.
