Er gehört im August 1912 zu den 34 Gründungsmitgliedern der Paläontologischen Gesellschaft. 1945 evakuierte die US-Armee Krenkel nach Weilburg/Lahn, darauf lehrte er privat weiter in Ahausen (Weilburg).
