Gemeinsam erforschten beide 1904/05 Nordwestchina und Osttibet. Danach eigene Expedition durch ostmongol. und nordtibet. Gebirge. 1920-1928 Tropenarzt in Niederl.-Ostindien (Indonesien), wo er Krankenhäuser auf Timor und Borneo leitete, dann auf Pulu Laut (Nordborneo) als Minenarzt tätig.
