Beförderung zum Leutnant, Auszeichnung mit Tapferkeitsmedaille und Goldenem Verdienstkreuz mit Krone. 1917 zum Amt für Volksernährung versetzt. Nach Kriegsende Rückkehr an die Universität Graz, 1921 Ernennung zum außerordentlichen Professor. Berufung zum ordentlichen Professor für Philosophie an der Universität Greifswald. 1937 Aberkennung der Prüfungsbefugnis, da er als "Mischling 2. Grades" galt. Überwachung durch SD der SS und Mitarbeitern des Amts Rosenberg wegen "katholischer" und "demokratischer" Einstellung, laut eigener Aussage keine Beeinträchtigung seiner Lehrtätigkeit.
