Ab 1913 Professor für Wärmelehre nach Danzig berufen, wo er auch das Maschinenlaboratorium der Hochschule betreute. Dort blieb er bis 1914 als ordentlicher Professor tätig. 1914–1916 Zentral Verkaufsgesellschaft in Berlin, 1916-1918 Ingenieur bei der Firma Luftschiffbau Schütte-Lanz. 1918-1925 Professor an der Technische Hochschule Danzig. 1925-1954 hatte er dann eine Professur für Technische Thermodynamik und Kältetechnik an der Technischen Hochschule Karlsruhe inne. Ab 1926 Leiter des von ihm gegründeten Kältetechnischen Instituts, begründete 1936 das „Reichsinstitut für Lebensmittelfrischhaltung“. 1930/1931 Rektor der Hochschule, war in seiner zweiten Amtszeit der erste Rektor nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges.
