Bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1994 vertrat er in der Lehre vor allem die Geomorphologie, daneben landeskundliche Themen. 1968-1972 war er Schriftführer des Verbands deutscher Hochschullehrer der Geographie und damit zugleich für den Zentralverband der deutschen Geographen.
