Tausz’ Forschungsschwerpunkt lag auf der Erdölwissenschaft und -technik. Von 1925-1933 lehrte er außerdem als Dozent an der TH Karlsruhe und fungierte als wissenschaftlicher Berater der I. G. Farbenindustrie AG, der deutschen Luftfahrtgesellschaft und der Chemischen Industrie Basel. 1933 Emigration in die USA, dort bis 1953 als selbstständiger Berater (Chemical Consultant) für die Erdölfirma L.
