Rod Girle

Biblio: Roderic (Rod) Girle was born in Goondiwindi and lived in Yelarbon before going to The Scots College in Warwick, 1951-54. He enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture at The University of Queensland in 1955 and lived in Emmanuel College for six years. He was a private in the University of Queensland Regiment for five years from 1956. In 1957 he moved from Architecture to the Faculty of Arts to study Philosophy with emphasis on Aesthetics and Logic. After three years (1963-66) as the Presbyterian Minister at Greenmount in Steele Rudd country on the Darling Downs, he returned to the University of Queensland as a graduate student until 1971. After a year in St Andrews in Scotland he became a lecturer in Philosophy at his Alma Mater in 1972. He was Acting Head of Philosophy 1973-74 and became Head of the Department from 1980 to 1988, and Reader in Philosophy in 1985. After a detour through the Research School at ANU from 1988 to 1991 and the School of Computing and Information Technology at Griffith University 1991 to 1994, he went to the Philosophy Department at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in August 1994 and stayed until March 2015
