Graduated from Department of Physics, Faculty of Science at Kyoto University (obtained Bachelor of Science) in 1967. Completed his master in Graduate School of Economics at Osaka University (obtained Master of Economics) in 1969. Obtained Ph.D. (Doctor of Economics) at Minnesota University in December 1976. Held a post of a professor, Faculty of Economics at Hitotsubashi University and a visiting fellow in Graduate School of Environment at York University in Canada and assumed a Professor of Economics at Doshisha University (present post) in 1996. During this time, held a post of a visiting fellow at International Ecology and Economics Institute of Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences from 2003 to 2004, and a visiting fellow at Economics Geography, Geographical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences from 2004 to 2005.
