B:1959Hannover Biblio: Nach einer ersten Professur für Regionale Geographie an der Technischen Universität München (1995–1996) wechselte Sternberg 1996 auf die Professur für Wirtschaftsgeographie an der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität zu Köln, wo er bis 2005 das Institut für Wirtschafts- und Sozialgeographie leitete. Anschließend folgte Sternberg 2006 dem Ruf auf eine Professur für Wirtschaftsgeographie an die Leibniz Universität Hannover als Nachfolger von Ludwig Schätzl, damals Präsident dieser Universität. Dort forscht er u. a. zu Fragen der regionalen Entrepreneurshipforschung, der innovationsbasierten Regionalentwicklung sowie den räumlichen Implikationen der Digitalisierung, der Corona-Pandemie sowie der Kreativwirtschaft.
