The provided dataset covers detailed regional information and a rich set of housing characteristics. This data report gives a brief overview on the data as well as its limitations and specifics. The data report is addressed to (potential) users of the data as support for their data preparation. This data report refers to RWI-GEO-RED v10 that covers data until December 2023.

Link Link 2. FDZ data description : real-estate data for Germany campus files (RWI-GEO-RED Panel and RWI-GEO-RED Cross v5) - advertisements on the internet platform ImmobilienScout24 for teaching purposes
abstractThe FDZ Ruhr provides two campus files on real estate advertisements in Germany: the Panel Campus File (RWI-GEO-RED Panel) and a Cross-Sectional Campus File (RWI-GEO-RED Cross-Section). The datasets are extractions of the Scientific Use Files of RWI-GEO-RED. The Panel File covers the 15 largest cities in Germany over the whole time period, whereas the Cross-Section File covers all of Germany within one year (2023). The RWI-GEO-RED data are based on information from the internet platform ImmobilienScout24 and cover residential advertisements only. The campus files include apartments for sale and for rent and houses for sale. The data are available for lectures, tutorials, seminar thesis, bachelor and master thesis and scientific research. The provided dataset covers detailed regional information and a rich set of housing characteristics. Both datasets are samples drawn and not comprehensive databases like the Scientific Use File. The already implemented data cleaning eases the data work for students. This data report gives a brief overview of the data as well as its limitations and specifics. The data report is addressed to (potential) users of the data as support for their data preparation. This data report is an updated version of previous reports and refers to the Campus Files v5, which covers data until 2023.

Link Link 3. FDZ data description : regional real estate price indices for Germany (RWI-GEO-REDX) - version 12: 2008-11/2023
abstractThe FDZ Ruhr at RWI provides price indices for apartments and houses (rentals and sales) in Germany starting in 2008. The price indices are based on the real estate dataset RWI-GEO-RED, which combines real estate listings from ImmoScout24. We perform three types of hedonic regressions to allow comparisons across time (annual or quarterly), across regions (labor market regions, counties, or municipalities), and in combination across time and regions. The data are publicly available and can be requested from the FDZ Ruhr website. A weakly anonymized version is also available for researchers on request. This data report is an updated version of previous reports and refers to RWI-GEO-REDX v12, which covers data until November 2023.

Link Link 4. Umweltzonen in Deutschland : Emissionsbegrenzungen verbessern Bildung und psychische Gesundheit
abstractTrotz erheblicher Verbesserungen der Luftqualität in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten führen Luftschadstoffe nach wie vor weltweit zu etwa sieben Millionen vorzeitigen Todesfällen pro Jahr.info Zahlreiche Studien belegen, dass Luftverschmutzung in der Bevölkerung gesundheitliche Beschwerden verursacht, insbesondere im Bereich der Herz-Kreislauf- und Atemwegserkrankungen.info Jüngere Studien deuten darauf hin, dass auch das menschliche Gehirn unter der Schadstoffbelastung leidet, was sich unter anderem an einem Abfall der kognitiven Leistunginfoinfo und Produktivitätinfo, wie auch an Verhaltensauffälligkeiten bei Kinderninfo äußert. Diese neuen Erkenntnisse rücken die Frage in den Vordergrund, inwieweit Umweltmaßnahmen nicht nur dem Umweltschutz und der körperlichen Gesundheit dienen, sondern auch andere Lebensbereiche wie Bildungschancen und Lebensqualität fördern können. Zwar hat sich die Luftqualität in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten dank technologischer Fortschritte in der Fahrzeug- und Industrieproduktion deutlich verbessert, doch in vielen Ballungsgebieten werden nach wie vor die von der Europäischen Union (EU) festgelegten und der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) empfohlenen Richtwerte für Luftqualität verfehlt. Um diese Belastungen zu reduzieren und die EU-Grenzwerte einzuhalten, führten viele Städte gebietsbezogene Fahrbeschränkungen wie Umweltzonen ein, in denen nur Fahrzeuge mit bestimmten Emissionsstandards erlaubt sind. Auch in Deutschland wurden ab 2008 in mehreren Städten Umweltzonen eingerichtet, um die Luftverschmutzung durch den Straßenverkehr zu verringern. Dieser politische Schritt stieß aufgrund der potenziellen Kosten für Autofahrer*innen sowie möglicher wirtschaftlicher Nachteile für den innerstädtischen Handel vielerorts auf Kritik. Für eine umfassende Bewertung solcher Maßnahmen ist es entscheidend, nicht nur die direkten Effekte auf die Luftqualität, sondern auch die indirekten sozialen Auswirkungen zu berücksichtigen. Dieser Wochenbericht untersucht erstmals die Effekte von Umweltzonen auf zwei gesellschaftlich besonders relevante Bereiche: Bildung und psychische Gesundheit.info Anhand administrativer Schul- und Krankenkassendaten und mittels ökonometrischer Analysen wird untersucht, wie sich die Einführung von Umweltzonen auf Schulerfolg und mentale Gesundheit auswirkt – beides zentrale Faktoren für den sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Fortschritt einer Gesellschaft.

abstractRegional disparities are pronounced and persistent. Regional data of high quality are needed to improve the understanding of the origins and consequences of regional disparities and the effectiveness of regional policies through empirical analysis. Against the background of existing problems with regard to both the access to and the provision of high-quality regional data, this paper derives recommendations for action to improve the supply of regional data for the purpose of scientific analyses.

6. Unternehmensdaten : Nutzbarkeit verbessern
abstractHigh-quality company data is crucial for state-of-the-art empirical research and competition, as well as for evidence-based policy advice, reliable forecasts and policy evaluations. In Germany, however, there are striking deficits in the availability of and access to company data compared to other European countries. This leads to disadvantages in scientific competition, but above all to major welfare losses for the German economy and society as a whole. The planned Research Data Act is intended to remedy the situation. This article proposes four key measures in the area of company data to sustainably improve research and policy evaluation in Germany.

7. Besserer Zugang zu Unternehmensdaten für die empirische Wirtschaftsforschung und Politikberatung in Deutschland : eine Stellungnahme aus dem Verein für Socialpolitik
abstractDer zeitnahe Zugang zu qualitativ hochwertigen Unternehmensdaten ist für Wirtschaftsforscher*innen von entscheidender Bedeutung für empirische Spitzenforschung und dem Wettbewerb um die besten Köpfe sowie für evidenzbasierte Politikberatung, zuverlässige Prognosen und Maßnahmenevaluationen. In Deutschland zeigen sich allerdings im Vergleich zu vielen anderen europäischen Ländern eklatante Defizite bei der Verfügbarkeit und dem Zugang zu Firmendaten. Dies bringt Nachteile im wissenschaftlichen Wettbewerb, aber vor allem große Wohlfahrtsverluste für die deutsche Volkswirtschaft und Gesellschaft insgesamt mit sich. Das geplante Forschungsdatengesetz soll nun endlich Abhilfe schaffen und die vorliegende Stellungnahme aus dem Verein für Socialpolitik erläutert vier zentrale Punkte, die angegangen werden müssen, um Forschung und Politikevaluation in Deutschland nachhaltig zu verbessern.

abstractRegionale Ungleichheiten sind ausgeprägt und persistent. Qualitativ hochwertige Regionaldaten sind notwendig, um auf Basis empirischer Analysen ein besseres Verständnis über die Ursprünge und Konsequenzen regionaler Disparitäten sowie der Wirksamkeit regionalpolitischer Maßnahmen zu erlangen. Vor dem Hintergrund vorliegender Probleme im Zugang zu und der Bereitstellung von hochwertigen Regionaldaten werden in diesem Papier Handlungsempfehlungen zu einer Verbesserung des Angebots an Regionaldaten für wissenschaftliche Analysen abgeleitet.

Link Link 9. The divergence of school track choices after Covid-19
abstractDuring the pandemic, many measures were taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Some of these measures, such as school closures, directly affected students. Children from different backgrounds are likely to have different abilities to cope with the challenges of the pandemic and associated countermeasures. We analyse whether pre-existing differences in transition rates from primary schools in low-income and high-income neighborhoods to secondary schools have widened. Our results show that the transition rate from primary schools to Gymnasium, the academic track, increased by 1.5 percentage points in primary schools in high-income neighborhoods compared to primary schools in low-income neighborhoods, suggesting that the pandemic increased educational differences in Germany. We provide suggestive evidence that children's technological equipment and parents' capabilities to help their children differ across neighborhood types.
